Overview
A mountain biker pedals through the rugged terrain of Mustang with the backdrop of Dhaulagiri during Nepal's Cross-Country MTB tour with Nepal MTB Adventure.

Lower Mustang, often called the gateway to the Forbidden Kingdom, offers one of Nepal’s most scenic and culturally rich mountain biking experiences. Located in the Annapurna region, this area combines stunning landscapes with deep-rooted Tibetan culture, all without the need for restricted permits like in Upper Mustang.

Ideal for both intermediate and experienced riders, Lower Mustang presents a thrilling mix of jeep trackssingletracks, and high-desert scenery. With over 21+ years of hands-on experience, our team at Nepal Mountain Bike Adventures guarantees a safe, authentic, and unforgettable ride through the spiritual heart of the Himalayas

Why Ride the Lower Mustang Mountain Bike Trail?

Diverse Terrain and Breathtaking Trails

From the windswept valley of Jomsom to the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath, the terrain in Lower Mustang is varied and always rewarding. Riders will tackle rocky climbs, descend through apple orchards, and cruise across ancient stone villages with the majestic Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges in the background.

Cultural Immersion in Thakali and Tibetan Villages

Lower Mustang is home to the Thakali people, known for their hospitality, spiritual traditions, and stone-built architecture. You'll ride through Kagbeni, Marpha, and Tukuche—villages that feel like living museums, where Buddhist prayer flags, chortens, and monasteries line your path.

Accessible Yet Wild

Unlike Upper Mustang, Lower Mustang does not require a Restricted Area Permit (RAP), making it more budget-friendly. Still, the remote wilderness, high-altitude trails, and raw Himalayan beauty give riders a taste of true adventure.

Best Time to Visit Lower Mustang

The best time to visit Lower Mustang for mountain biking is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the weather is dry and the mountain views are clear. These seasons offer ideal trail conditions and comfortable temperatures. Thanks to its location in a rain shadow, Lower Mustang is also rideable during the monsoon months (June to August). This makes it a great nearly year-round destination for mountain biking.
