Are you ready for a thrilling mountain biking adventure/holiday in Nepal? Imagine the excitement of pedaling through diverse landscapes, tackling challenging trails, and soaking in the beauty of the Majestic Himalayas. However, before you hit the trails, it is important to gather the right gear to ensure a safe and an unforgettable experience. In this page, we are going to guide you through the check-list that covers all the essentials for your mountain biking adventure in Nepal.
The following pack lists are based on our experience of riding in the Himalayan region of Nepal. And the check-list may not be complete. So, we advise you to further research the destination and weather before setting up for the adventure tour in Nepal. If you have any specific questions please feel free to contact us.

Now, let us dive through the check-list needed for a safe and an unforgettable mountain biking experience in Nepal.

1. Biking Clothing based on different seasons

Spring (March to May):

  • Light and breathable long or short-sleeved jerseys 3-5

  • Cycling shorts or Padded shorts 2-5 based on the number of riding days

  • Moisture-wicking cycling socks 3-5 pairs based on the number of days

  • Cycling gloves full or half based on your preference and elevations

  • Comfortable mountain biking shoe with better traction

  • Arm and leg warmers (cooler mornings and evenings)

  • Buff or Hat to protect from sun and dust

  • Light wind and water proof jacket (cooler mornings and unexpected showers)

  • Cycling bag with rain cover

  • Mountain biking sunglasses with strap

Summer (June to August):

  • Light and moisture-wicking short or long sleeved jerseys 3-5

  • Padded or cycling shorts 2-3

  • Breathable and quick-drying socks 4-5 pairs

  • Half gloves with good airflow and full glove (higher elevations)

  • Cycling bag 15-20 Kg 

  • Lightweight arm and leg warmers (cooler mornings and higher elevations 2 pairs)

  • Buff to shield from the sun and the dust

  • Windproof and water-resistant jacket for rain

  • Comfortable cycling shoes with improved airflow

  • Sunglasses with strap

Autumn (September to November):

  • Thermal or fleece based long-sleeved cycling jerseys 3-5 depending on your riding days

  • Comfortable and reliable cycling shorts or padded shorts 3-5 based on the number of riding days

  • Windproof and water-resistant cycling jacket with fleece or thermal

  • Arm warmers and full-length leg warmers

  • Full gloves with fleece or thermal

  • Warm cycling socks

  • Comfortable and warm cycling shoes with good traction

  • Beanie cap to keep the head warm

  • Thermal or fleece-lined cycling tights (colder mornings or higher elevations 3-5 based on your cycling days)

  • Warm Buff or Neck gaiter 

  • Base layers (inner, mid and outer) 2 each

  •  Cycling bag 15-20 Kg

Winter (December to February):

  • Thermal or fleece-lined cycling jersey 3-5 based on the number of your biking days

  • Thermal or fleece-lined cycling tights or leggings 

  • Thermal-lined Windproof and waterproof cycling jacket

  • Thermal or fleece-lined full gloves

  • Thermal or woolen cycling socks

  • Comfortable cycling shoes with good insulation

  • Fleece based Neck gaiter to protect the face and neck from cold

  • Insulated shoe covers or toe warmers

  • Ear warmers to keep the ears warm

  • Fleece or thermal-lined base layers (inner, mid and outer) 2 each 

  • UV-protection sunglass with strap 

  • Beanie cap to keep the head warm

  • Cycling bag 15-20 Kg


Note: This is just a general check-list and individual preferences may vary. So, it is important to study weather conditions and terrain before setting up for a ride and choose clothing accordingly.

2. Other required clothing (Normal clothes) for different season

Spring (March to May):

  • Lightweight T-shirts or tops made of cotton or linen.

  • Jeans, trousers, or skirts in comfortable cuts and lengths.

  • Light jackets for cooler mornings and evenings.

  • Light and comfortable shoes or sneakers below 3000m.

  • Lightweight, long-sleeved shirts or dresses to cover up during intense sun exposure.

  • Sunglasses and a hat.

  • Buffs, Scarves, or shawls.

  • Sleeping bag -5 degree (higher elevations above 3000m)

Monsoon (June to August):

  • Loose-fitting, lightweight cotton or linen shirts or T-shirts.

  • Shorts, skirts, or any airy dresses.

  • Breathable, light-colored fabrics to stay cool in the heat.

  • Rain jacket, Poncho or umbrella.

  • Sandals or flip-flops.

  • Waterproof or water-resistant sandals or shoes.

  • Proper water and wind proof boots with insulation (elevations above 3000m) 

  • A hat, and sunglasses.

  • Lightweight, long-sleeved shirts or dresses to cover up during intense sun exposure.

  • Sleeping bag -5 degree for elevations above 3000m.

Autumn (September to November):

  • Quick-dry clothing made of materials like polyester or nylon.

  • T-shirts or tops that are easy to dry and won't retain moisture.

  • Light rain jacket or waterproof poncho.

  • Fleece or Thermal-lined trouser and Jacket (cold temperatures in higher elevations)

  • Thermal or fleece-lined base layers (mid, outer for higher elevations and cold temperatures).

  • Trousers, cropped pants, or long skirts.

  • Proper water and wind proof boots with insulation (elevations above 3000m)

  •  Waterproof or water-resistant sandals or shoes.

  • Sleeping bag (-10 degree for elevations).

Winter (December to February):

  • Long-sleeved sweaters, sweatshirts, or hoodies.

  • Warm layers like thermal tops and leggings.

  • Woolen or fleece jackets (-15 to -20 degree for elevation above 4000m) to provide insulation.

  • Jeans or trousers made of thicker fabrics.

  • Closed-toe shoes or boots with good traction and insulation.

  • Thick woolen or Thermal based socks.

  • Fleece-lined beanie cap and buff to protect head and face from the cold. 

  • Scarves, gloves (-15 to -20 degree for higher elevations above 4000m), and hats to keep warm in colder temperatures.

  • Sleeping bag (-15 to -20 degrees for elevations above 3000m).

Note: The weather of Nepal varies from place to place. So, it is highly recommended to study the weather and the region before starting the trip and plan accordingly.

3. Nutrition

  • Snacks or Bars

  • Energy Gels

  • Electrolytes

  • Vitamins or Mineral tablets

4. Personal and Desirable Items

  • Head torch and torch for night

  • Hand sanitizer and mosquito repellent

  • Sun protection, toiletries, lip guard and moisturizer cream

  • Personal first aid kit and medications

  • Camera, SD cards and battery, phone and charger with waterproof case

  • Ear plugs

  • Map and GPS

  • Chamois cream

  • Power adaptor 2 or 3 pin

  • Power bank or portable solar panel

5. Bike Tools (If bringing own bike)

  • Multi-tool including chain cutter

  • Portable Pump

  • Patch-kit/Repair kit

  • Tire levers

  • Suspension Pump

  • Spoke wrench

  • Zip ties and duct tape

  • Brake repair kit with required oil

6. Spare Parts (If bringing own bike)

  • Brake pads

  • Inner Tubes or Tire Sealant

  • Derailleur and Hanger

  • Chain Link or Master Link

  • Chain Lube

  • Spokes

  • Gear wires

  • Specific bolts and nuts for parts like rotor
